From Twilight Lexicon- listen to the podcast and read the whole interview HERE!

Jen, Be My Escape, had the opportunity to interview Gil Birmingham about his music. Aside from being a talented actor, Gil is a musician as well. Many people who have gone to various conventions, like Eye-Con this weekend in Florida, have gotten to hear Gil perform. Q: What are the inspirations for your lyrics and music? My music comes from the emotional place I’m in when I write it. It’s an outpouring of the soul of those emotions through the guitar. What genre does your music generally fit into? My music is classic rock and blues for the most part.

Kicking off my page- my recent interview with Quileute patriarch, Gil Birmingham. Read a snippet of our interview- be sure to check out the whole interview here!

Because Billy Black is one of the few Quileutes who is not a werewolf, your role adds a different level of complexity. What did you add to your character in order to seamlessly connect with Jacob’s character as well as the rest of the werewolf clan?

Billy simply loves his son and his family (tribe). Billy is the wise tribal leader, who, because he isn’t a werewolf, understands the dangers and complexities of the “tentative” peace between the Cullens and the Quileute tribe. He knows the dangers that the Cullens present to Bella and others. Billy is the glue that holds the tribe and its traditions together.

In what ways are you and Billy Black similar?

We’re both “down with the kids.” We both have a genuine compassion for the human condition. We both recharge our souls with Mother Nature, and we both keep it real.

Twilighters Anonymous has an exclusive interview with Gil Birmingham (uh. just as the title above suggests…). Here’s a snippet:

TA.com: Has the Twilight hype affected you in anyway? After having gone through one Twilight film already, do you feel you are better prepared for the hype the second time around?

GB: The whole Twilight experience has been truly amazing. I am constantly in awe of the love and support that Twilight fans all over the world continue to give me. The downside is that I have less time now to communicate directly with my fans, but I hope they know that I feel truly blessed to be a part of this thing called Twilight. I’m at the point in my life where I can appreciate all the adoration from fans, but not get swept up in all the hype. I’m still the same Gil Birmingham I was before Twilight.

TA.com: How do you get into character to carry out your role as Billy? Do you find that you relate to the character of Billy in any way?

GB: I spent time studying the book and the character to understand the inner motivation of Billy and tried to get into his thought process and how he would look and react in various situations. Billy is the leader of the tribe, but is not a werewolf. Because of this, he brings a different perspective to the story, and it adds complexity to his character. I found that there was a lot of Billy in me, which projected in the film.
