Catherine reveals to the L.A. Times that Bryce Dallas Howard was the first pick for the role of Victoria, but Howard turned down the role, saying it was too small of a part. Hardwicke also expresses her concern for Rob and Kristen and all the media attention, considering the indie artists that they are… sweet.

MTV’s interview with Catherine Hardwicke, where she reveals alternate lines to “You better hold on tight, spider monkey..” (swoon…):

Then we saw her personal shrine to “Twilight” — one of the best “Twilight” collections. She has the original script and the first “Twilight” book she bought, complete with all her notes and alternate lines for Edward’s “Hold on tight, spider monkey.” (Robert chose that one after reading 10 alternative lines that Catherine wrote the night before, including “Wrap your legs around me and hold on tight, spider monkey” and “Fasten your seatbelt, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”) It was nice to see that Catherine also keeps her fan mail and gifts that Twilighters send her. The best ones make it into the shrine.

Another great moment was seeing the words to Paramore’s “Decode” written out by frontwoman Hayley Williams herself. When Hayley first played Catherine the song, the director thought the song gave away too much of the story. Hayley wrote it out so Catherine could really look at the words — apparently it all worked out, because now “Decode” is nominated for Best Song at the Movie Awards.

So my choice of articles to write loom between Catherine Hardwicke playing the helpless woman role, or RPattz playing the womanizer role between KStew and Nikki. Which do I go with?

Catherine Hardwicke told an estimated crowd of 475 Friday at a symposium hosted by the Chapman University Film School that she has a hard time convincing studio executives that a woman can direct a blockbuster action.

“There are a zillion movies that you feel a woman should direct,” Hardwicke said. “But they’re more than happy to let a guy do it.”

Hardwicke and six other female directors were part of a symposium called Women in Focus, which was meant to give exposure to both established directors like Penelope Spheeris, who directed Wayne’s World; and emerging directors like Harwicke and Kimberly Peirce, who directed Boys Don’t Cry.

Hardwicke said the success of Twilight, the screen adaptation of a vampire-romance novel, did open doors for her in terms of offers.

The Catherine Hardwicke-directed movie Twilight earned $70.6 million in its first weekend of release in Nov. 21, 2008 and has currently taken in more than $185 million worldwide.

I must be losing my edge, but I just can’t speculate on Mr. Hunky Spunk’s love life when there’s nothing but smut out there right now to base it on. I’m too protective of him. Sorry!

Salt Lake City
Hundreds of moms and daughters flocked to the
Riverton Wal-Mart in Salt Lake City where Rachelle Lefevre made an appearance.

Lefevre, who plays the evil vampire Victoria, signed autographs and expressed surprise at the turnout. “This is just unbelievable,” Lefevre said. “You get better at handling it, your lip doesn’t quiver anymore, but the excitement never, ever goes away.”

She said she was “flattered” to be chosen to go to Utah, where “Twilight” author Stephanie Meyer hails from. Fans said they “bitten,” a term Twilighters use to refer to their rabid attraction to the books and film. “Every girl wants to find her Edward,” said one fan.

A couple of members over at TwiFans had the incredible opportunity to attend the Catherine Hardwicke book signing. Looks like the highlight was their little diddy sung with none other than Ned “Waylon”Bellamy…

They also listened to Catherine discuss various production elements of the movie:

Catherine discusses Unit 1 (the real actors) and Unit 2 (stunt doubles) and in detail with diagrams tell us how she did “her most difficult and challenging scene to shoot” the flying through the tree scene and the tree top shots. Catherine says it was “very scary and exciting”. A behind the scene clip of wind blowing through Edward and Bella’s hair while jumping to the tree from the Cullen house. It made us giggle. The tree top instructions from Catherine and lots of screaming each time we saw Robert. A crane was used with the tree top scene with a camera strapped to it for the “dreamy, dilerious feeling”. And how the stunt almost got blown out of the tree!

Spoiler: Star Spills Self-Depricating Commentary from RPattz

Millions of Twi-teens and Twilight Moms will be watching the DVD Saturday night at homespun Release Parties. The majority of us have seen the movie, some more than others *ahem*, and what I’m looking most forward to is the commentary. Specifically, that hawt British accent.

Imagine my *squeal* happiness to find that the journalist at the Kansas City Star indeed, finds RPattz to be the best part of the commentary. She writes:

“There he is with director Catherine Hardwicke and co-star Kristen Stewart in the audio commentary on the new “Twilight” DVD, dissing himself and tossing in silly bits of new dialogue for his vampire hottie character, Edward Cullen.

•During the school cafeteria scene where an iconic apple bounces off Edward’s feet and into his hands: “Wow, he’s a superhuman moron. … He wears lipstick, has a little bouffant and does little circus acts.”

OH MY ROBERT!!!!!!!!! by loso cullen.

•A make-out scene with his human girlfriend, Bella (Stewart):

edward and bella by a1y53_210.

“I’ve got one of those butt chins” — explaining his usual stubble and beards off camera. During other pivotal scenes Pattinson pipes in to point out his “scraggly sideburns,” “effeminate hands,” “sculpted eyebrows” and a clueless “where am I?” gaze. (Note to Rob: Some of us like to refer to that gaze as “come hither” bedroom eyes, sweetie..)

•In the forest, when Edward is warning Bella to stay away:

Edward Cullen by RoRo (:.

Edward: “Do you know what vampires eat?”

Pattinson (in a high, nasal voice): “Cheeseburgers!”

•During the romantic prom dance in the gazebo, when Edward leans in toward Bella’s outstretched neck:

Edward and Bella at the Prom by Jacob Blacks Lil' WolfGirl =D.

Hardwicke: “Oh … that’s hot.”

Stewart: “That was really difficult on my neck.”

Pattinson: “I look like an anime character.”

Who knew that self-deprication and ilicit humbleness on a tall, lanky Britt would be considered so hot? I can’t WAIT for Saturday night!!
